The main lounge atop the InterContinental
Mark Hopkins Hotel |
|
On the opposite side of the country at the legendary Top of the Mark in San Francisco, where some may have lost
their hearts, I found a delightfully sophisticated cocktail piano scene. I knew it would be so the moment I lifted
my eyes to look out the window—dusk, and the fog was just beginning to spill out onto San Francisco Bay from Sausalito—a
quietly exciting, highly memorable view. The cocktail piano music was wrapping around me as surely and as softly
as the furs around the shoulders of the fashionable women at the table to the right. Modulated voices, a view to
remember always, a companion with whom I was about to embark on a long anticipated journey—all packaged by the
strains of well-rendered piano music made poignant by mutual experience. A very special kind of harmony of the
moment. And the promise of the morrow. |
