A more recent encounter with cocktail piano happened in Hong Kong. On our way to dinner at the Hong Kong Club with a friend, we were ahead of schedule. On a whim, we stopped in a Four Seasons Hotel for a drink at the luxurious Lobby Lounge and found there a talented vocalist who performed several delightful songs to piano accompaniment. Again, it was familiar territory. The music reconnected us with the Mayfair, The Mark Hopkins, Canlis, the little fish place in Budapest—and many other places—in a most remarkable way. The connection, of course, was cocktail piano.
